Intel’s Falcon Shores GPU: Unleashing High Performance with 1500W Power Consumption

The Intel Falcon Shores GPU will combine x86 and Xe GPU cores to deliver incredible performance for AI and HPC workloads, albeit with a power consumption of 1500W.

Intel is set to push the boundaries of AI and high-performance computing (HPC) with the Falcon Shores series, which will be available in 2025. However, this impressive performance comes with a significant power consumption of 1500W, which is even higher than Nvidia’s already available B200 GPU at 1000W.

Intel Falcon Shores knows no boundaries

For those who missed it, the Intel Falcon Shores will be a multi-tier GPU focused on AI and HPC workloads, featuring general-purpose processing (x86 cores) and Xe cores. Previously, Intel had indicated five times higher performance per watt and a ‘simplified’ programming model. However, the company has yet to disclose detailed performance expectations.

Recent leaks from ComputerBase confirm these claims. In a comment from Intel, it was stated that the Falcon Shores offers excellent performance by combining x86 and Xe GPU cores. However, this performance comes with a power consumption of 1500W.

It should also be noted that this power design will require more powerful cooling solutions. At this stage, it has been confirmed that Intel and its partners will opt for liquid cooling. Therefore, an air-cooled version is not planned at the moment. Additionally, it is important to note that the 1500W TDP may represent the top configuration. This could result in standard air-cooled or passive-cooled designs in the 1000W range.
